No matter how careful you are, sometimes you can never be too careful and still lose your phone. So whether your phone got stolen or you simply misplaced it, all you might be thinking about is how to get it back. If you have a smart phone then you are in luck. Most phones can be easily tracked regardless of their operating systems. So don’t worry, we’ve got your back.
Different operating systems like IOS, Android, and Windows have a retrieval technology. Usually you can install a “find my phone app”. Such apps will enable you to lock your phone, wipe off data remotely and even set an alarm so that whoever finds it, can contact you.
But unfortunately most people don’t realize that such apps exist except after losing their phones. But if this is the case, don’t worry. There are still ways where you can get your lost phone without installing such apps.
Let’s take an Android phone for example. The Android Device Manager is an easy to use tool to track and locate your phone as long as your device is connected to the internet and to a Google account. Sign in into your Google account and visit the Android Device Manager. The manager will automatically try to locate your registered device. When you type “where is my phone” in the search bar, the device manager displays a map to show where your device is. You can also make it ring by pressing the “Ring” button.
The good news is that the Android Device Manager is pretty accurate in locating your location. The bad news is that if your mobile is switched off or not connected to the internet, it will be very hard to find. In that case you might want to install some third party app that can be remotely installed to your mobile to help you locate it.
With IPhones, it is a different story. IOS devices already have the “Find my phone” feature installed. That feature will help you find and locate your device easily. But again this feature only works when your phone is connected to the internet. This feature will enable you to send a message to your mobile, to make it ring or even erase off all its data. This is the same with Windows phones that have the same options. You can easily remotely lock devices and wipe off data.
If you are still unable to locate your phone, you can always call your service provider and check if they can locate your device via GPS. Most of the time they can do this and tell you when and where your phone was last used, which can help you to find your lost phone. You can also ask to have your services suspended so that nobody can misuse your services.
Losing a phone can be a total disappointment but you can still easily locate it using the right tools. But as they say, better safe than sorry. So why don’t try to protect your phone in advance. Your call.
